Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Buckingham Elementary School utilizes the PBIS Program (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), a proactive approach to school-wide discipline. This program focuses on creating and sustaining an environment for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing challenging behaviors through a collaborative team approach.

Teaching appropriate expectations and providing students with helpful strategies makes this initiative a rewarding component to our classroom instruction.

Our goal is to have consistent behavioral expectations throughout the school, which will enable all students to be academically and behaviorally successful.

Class Dojo - Creating a Positive School Culture

In the 2019-2020 school year, Buckingham Elementary began using Class Dojo to help supplement and manage our School Wide PBIS Program.

Class Dojo is a digital tool that allows teachers to give students immediate feedback on their positive behavior choices. It also allows teachers to share meaningful highlights of a students day through texts, photos, and videos using the Class Dojo app. Class Dojo is FREE, and all students at BES are already a part of the program!

In addition to classroom based communication, BES also uses the app to share reminders about upcoming dates and events with the entire school.

It is our goal to have 100% of our students have a parent or guardian connected to the app.

We are hopeful that through using Class Dojo we will not only improve communication, but that children will be encouraged to talk about their school day with their families. Class Dojo can help teachers and parents support students' growth through goal-setting, feedback, and celebration!

To connect to your child’s Class Dojo account, download the Class Dojo app or visit www.classdojo.com/parent. Parents will need to enter a unique parent code from the school to access their child's account.

Please feel free to reach out to our Class Dojo School Leader, Mr. Hamilton if you have any questions or need a parent access code at BJHamilton@worcesterk12.org.

How Does the Dojo Point System Work?

Whenever students are caught following our BES  rules of respect, they can earn a Dojo point in their account! Dojo points are a symbol of positive praise given to students in recognition of their appropriate behavior choices as part of our PBIS Tier I intervention system. These points will continue to accumulate until a students decides to trade them in towards incentives.

Dojo points can be redeemed on trade in days to participate classroom, or quarterly school-wide incentives. Students may also redeem Dojo Points in our school store for pencils, erasers, pens, etc.

The Dojo point system takes place of our former “Bucky Buck” paper dollar system. "Dojo Dollars" may be used as a tangible positive praise symbol of for younger students (pre-k and K). These dollars are then given to their homeroom teacher and converted to points in the Class Dojo application.

Parents have access to view the positive choices their students are making throughout the day along with point totals and point redemptions in the Class Dojo App!
